Dear Mr. Quartermaine,
The last few years of significant storms have shined a bright light on Sarasota's surface water management policies and practices. Failure is not an option with billions in property value at stake. Government will be held accountable in ways we've never seen. Over-development has outpaced our ability to properly extend and maintain this delicate and fragile stormwater release network.
However, we at stayTRU.com are thankful and appreciative for your department's recent maintenance actions on the Tatum Ridge Canal. Please extend our gratitude to your team. The Canal is a SWFWMD regulated fifty-two foot wide ditch and interconnected stormwater release system and is part of the historic Tatum Sawgrass System. For more than 100 years, this system has helped manage the wetlands and surface water in the area. Without proper and regular maintenance, the large open canal and its adjacent network of eleven interconnected ponds would not properly serve its crucial role as a major stormwater conveyance system.
Thank you for attending to the Canal; it is a critical resource and county responsibility for our entire Tatum Ridge area.
On behalf of the 1,000+ stayTRU residents who live near the Canal: Thank You.

I have been calling the county regularly since the hurricane. The golf course developers keep dumping the trees they cut down. In the canal. They have red ribbons around many trees and something is planned
Glad our neighbors on Tatum Ridge are seeing some attention to these important stormwater resources. We hope the many neighbors on Lorraine Road (formerly known as Dog Kennel Road) who have been writing the County isnce 2024 following divergence of the canal in our neighborhood will also see some attention paid to prevent a repeat of the floods of 2024.
Thank you so much! Racimo Ranches and our surrounding neighbors are very important to us.
Adding my thanks and appreciation to Mr. Quartermaine and the County for your attention to this matter. It impacts my home directly. Nothing takes the place of regular maintenance.
John: well written and I totally agree!
