Ron is Wrong

stayTRU has written before about the continuing attack on Home Rule. The Live Local Act is a Tallahassee attack on Home Rule. So is the 2026 Infill Redevelopment Act which preempts local zoning and requires expedited administrative approvals for residential development on qualifying sites. Sound familiar? It's coming soon to a county near you.

In 1973, the Florida constitution gave local governments the right to govern local issues - unless, that is, the State felt otherwise.

For six decades, Tallahassee has steadily removed that right and has centralized power. Gun control? State. Bikes on sidewalks? State. Cruise ships? State. Painted crosswalks? Vacation rentals? Land use planning? Hurricane evacuation and recovery? Trees and landscaping? Plastic bags, straws and sunscreen? Minimum wage and building permits? State. State. State. All once controlled locally.¹

But the grandaddy of them all is the proposed Save Our Homes from Excessive Property Taxes.

It does very little for long term residents but it helps recent buyers and investors a lot. It doesn't cut taxes $1; it shifts them. But what it DOES do is centralize power in Tallahassee. He who holds the purse strings holds the power.

Below is an excellent article that talks about power. Before you vote, read it.

Please.
